I wanted a dive-style watch I could actually add to cart on Amazon, under five hundred dollars. Not a Submariner fantasy. Not a drawer full of references I cannot buy. Four watches were in stock that day. A cheap Casio quartz I can rinse. An Orient automatic with sapphire. A Citizen that drinks light instead of batteries. A Seiko Prospex that still looks like the diver silhouette I keep sketching in my head.
I treat the 200 m number on these pages as swim and surface water. Pool. Shore. A boat day. It is not a scuba license. I am not a dive instructor. Rinse after salt or chlorine. Leave the crown alone in the water.
Taste first. Duro if you want cheap quartz you can rinse. Kamasu if you want automatic and sapphire. Promaster if you want solar. Prospex if you want the Seiko diver look under $500. That is how I shopped. That is how I would pick.
Casio Duro MDV106

When I checked in early September, the Duro was $66.26. In stock. 4.7 out of 5 from 31,947 ratings. That sample is huge. Stars are still other people’s taste. I use them as a crowd check, not as a commandment.
44 mm. 12 mm thick. 20 mm band. Japanese quartz. Steel case. Resin band. Mineral crystal. 200 m / 660 ft on the page. It is a quartz beater. It is not sapphire. It is not automatic. I know that going in. The seconds hand ticks. The battery lives in there. I do not have to wear it every day to keep it alive.
In my taste this is the watch I would throw in a beach bag. Resin strap. Rinse it. Hang it. I would not pretend the mineral crystal is sapphire. I would not wear it if I wanted a rotor and a glide. I would wear it if sixty-six dollars and a steel case was the whole brief.
It wears large because 44 mm is large. If your wrist is small, try it on in your head before you click. If you wanted a tiny dress piece, this is the wrong aisle.
Orient Kamasu

I wanted the green Kamasu. It was not sitting there. Unavailable. So I used the black one that was live: the RA-AA0001B19B. Same family. Same job. I would rather send you to a watch you can buy than to an empty green page.
When I checked in early September, that black Kamasu was $345.00. In stock. 4.6 out of 5 from 2,931 ratings.
42 mm. Automatic. Sapphire. 200 m on the listing. Smaller across than the Casio and the Citizen. I like that if I already know 44 mm feels like a dinner plate. Sapphire is the reason I keep opening this one. Desks scratch mineral. They are slower on sapphire. Still not a tank. Just a Japanese automatic I would actually wear to work.
In my taste this is the pick if the whole point is a rotor plus a crystal I will not baby. You wind it by wearing it. Leave it in a drawer for a few days and it may stop. That is normal. Set the time. Wear it again. Quartz is easier if you rotate five watches and forget this one for a week.
I would skip it if I wanted solar and no winding story. I would skip it if I needed the cheapest rinse-and-go beater. Three hundred forty-five is not sixty-six. You are paying for automatic and sapphire. That trade is taste.

Citizen Promaster BN0168

When I checked in early September, the Promaster BN0168-06L was $296.25. In stock. 4.5 out of 5 from 339 ratings. Smaller crowd than the Casio. Still a live page I could click.
44 mm. 200 m. Eco-Drive. Mineral crystal. Polyurethane strap. Light charges it. I like that if I am the person who lets a quartz watch die in a drawer, then panics about a battery. Sit it in a window. Wear it outside. No rotor. No “did I shake it enough.”
The listing uses ISO-style language. I am not going to treat that as a certification I personally verified, and I am not going to treat 200 m as a scuba class. Swim. Surface. Same rule as the others.
Mineral, not sapphire. Same honesty as the Duro. Polyurethane, not a steel bracelet story I did not see on this brief. In my taste this is the middle money if I want the dive look and I refuse to think about batteries. I would skip it if sapphire was the whole reason I opened the tab. I would skip it if I wanted the Seiko silhouette and a 4R36 ticking in there.
Forty-four millimeters again. If the Duro felt too wide in your head, this is in the same neighborhood for size. Different job inside the case.

Seiko Prospex SRPE93

The cheaper turtle I wanted was not sitting at this price. Other Seikos I opened were over $500 or not available. I used the live SRPE93. Same Prospex look I came for. A watch I could buy that morning.
When I checked in early September, the SRPE93 was $490.00. In stock. 4.6 out of 5 from 435 ratings. Closest to the cap. Still under it.
45 mm. 200 m. 4R36 automatic. Hardlex crystal. Silicone strap. Biggest case of the four. Hardlex will scratch sooner than the Kamasu’s sapphire. I know that. I still like the Seiko diver shape. Fat markers. Tool watch energy. The 4R36 is the movement people mean when they say a modern Seiko automatic they can live with.
In my taste this is the pick if the Prospex look is the point and five hundred is the ceiling. You wear it. It winds. Silicone is easy to rinse. I would not buy it to baby a crystal. I would not buy it if 45 mm is going to hang off my wrist. I would not buy it if I wanted solar and a quiet life with a window sill.
Four hundred ninety is not sixty-six. You are paying for the Seiko name on a diver case and an automatic. If that sentence does not sound like you, the Duro is still there.

I would click the Duro if I wanted cheap quartz I can rinse. I would click the Kamasu if I wanted automatic and sapphire, and I would live with black because green was gone. I would click the Promaster if I wanted solar and no battery panic. I would click the Prospex if I wanted that Seiko diver look under $500. Four different jobs. One cart at a time. Re-check price and stock the morning you buy.
